“Lots of people make a big deal about Valentine’s Day. I don’t.”

This is how Oprah’s editorial in the February issue of “The Oprah Magazine” begins. And since I too am part of the group of those who do not celebrate this anniversary, I went on reading it.

In this that is nothing less than a love letter she’s giving another wisdom pearl: “Girl, if your man has put a flower on your mind, you won’t need no flowers in a vase!”.

Here, in a there few words, lays the truth of true love: knowing how to inspire each other, every day, not only once a year.

Last year I was contacted by a young Canadian couple that were looking for a vacation photographer Rome because they were planning a trip to Europe with a stop in Rome.

Talking with them, I’ve asked why they wanted to do a documentary session, a day in the life in Rome. So they told me a little about their life and how and where they met and I understood why instead of opting for a short lifestyle service they wanted to capture the thrill of living together this city that had so much importance for them.

So last September I joined them for an entire day to capture the emotions of their Roman Holiday.

Walking side by side is the first position of love and the two of them have shown me how, when walking together, you can discover so much more.

They walked the dusty streets holding hands, they absorbed the magic of the ancient walls and let the warm September sun kiss their skin.

I was struck by how much they blendend with the environment. Maybe because they had a few days to get settled, maybe because it was not their first time in Rome, but they really seemed to know every corner very well.

They had lunch with a slice of pizza at a small delicatessen, they enjoyed an ice cream cone while the rivers of tourists flowed around them.

And just like that, without even realizing it, I fell in love with this city again. I found myself overwhelmed by the power of their emotions and I saw Rome through their eyes – and they now have memories of their time spent in the eternal city of love through my eyes. This is also the beauty of family documentary photography, you never know the things you will discover, that you will learn. It is a continuous contamination, it cannot be otherwise.

By any chance have you recognize yourself in their way of exploring a city. Do you also walk 1000 km a day when you are in a new place just to immerse yourself even more in the atmosphere of the city, to experience it as if you were a local?

Aren’t you tired of carrying the weight of your camera with you? Wouldn’t you like to have some photos other than some selfies? Then, take me with you and I will make sure that you will keep the memory of your trip, the emotions you’ve experienced. And at the same time you will be able to share all this with your loved ones.
